GOD IS and GOD IS HOLY! If you doubt the first part of this statement, you probably won’t care about the second part. If, however, you are concerned about the second part (God is Holy) then you have some things you need to seriously think about.
God being absolutely holy means that He will have nothing to do with evil or those that have sin. In fact, He will judge and condemn all those that have sinned. Bear with me, God’s Good News is going to be explained. For now, we need to understand what He has told us concerning our sinful condition. Take a Bible and read in the book of Romans. Read Romans 1:18 through chapter 2:1-3. These verses you just read are very alarming and must be taken seriously. God hates sin and will judge sinners very harshly. Today a lot of religions try to change this fact, but it’s best that we listen to God and not to men.
In the beginning of the Bible you will find Genesis and then Exodus. In the book of Exodus are God’s commandments. See Exodus, chapter 20 and read verses 1-17. Now that you’ve read the Ten Commandments ask yourself, “Have I violated God’s law?” He gave it so we would know whether or not we have sinned against Him. What is your answer? Mine was an overwhelming, Yes! Based upon what God says about us, I believe your answer should be yes as well. He says that “all have sinned” and “there is none righteous, no not one” (see Romans 3:9-24).
Again, I remind you that this is very serious. God is holy and God will judge. If you’ve been honest, I’m sure you sense fear in your heart and rightfully so. If we say that we have not sinned we lie, and further more we then call God a liar (see 1 John 1:8-10). Are you ready for God’s Good News? Even though God is holy, hates sin, and will judge us accordingly, He also loves us and in His mercy planned a way to deal correctly with our sin
.
Most humans think that there’s some way to solve this sin problem on their own. They might say, “I’ll stop sinning and that will make God happy with me” or “I’ll do good things to compensate for my bad things.” The prophet Isaiah declares the truth about all humanity, “We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags . . .” God is not interested in our righteousness because our condition, as sinners, has really not changed. In Romans 8:7 it says that our sinful minds “. . . do not submit to God’s law, neither indeed can we.” Our situation is desperate; we not only don’t do what He wants, we are powerless to become righteous on our own. Let’s get back to Good News! As I said earlier, God has provided a way to forgive us and give us righteousness and eternal life. He wants us to realize that we cannot save ourselves. He is the One that saves sinners, and His way is the only way. Jesus said, “I’m the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.”
God promised, hundreds of years ago, that He would send a Savior into the world that would save sinners. So, when the time was right, God sent His only son, Jesus, into the world to save us by becoming a blood sacrifice for our sins. God’s law says, “without the shedding of blood there will be no forgiveness.” So God devised a way to send Jesus, as the holy sacrifice for sin, to the cross, and there He would suffer and die for us. Three days later, due to the fact that Jesus was sinless, He would raise from the dead. This was God’s declaration that He had accepted Christ’s death in the place of sinners. He became our substitute if we will trust Him as our personal Savior. God’s desire is that we will turn away from our sin and by faith believe in His Son as our only Savior.
When a sinner receives God’s salvation, then God does some remarkable things in the life of that saved person. He first of all imparts His own righteousness to the believer’s account. He forgives all his sin and will never credit the believers account with sin again, thanks to Jesus who paid the price in total for us. God then sends His Holy Spirit into the life and imparts new life and a new nature which never sins. God then, through His Spirit, lives in that life forever, thus bringing the power of Christ’s resurrection into the believer’s existence. He then has His Spirit teach and guide the new believer so that person can learn how to use his mortal body correctly for things that bring honor to God. All this is accomplished by God for the one that repents of his sin and trusts Jesus Christ as Savior.
